For her latest release, Sara Serpa tells autobiographical stories in both poetic and spoken form on this album with Ingrid Laubrock/sax, Angelica Sanchez/p and Erik Friedlander/cel. There’s and indie feel to her work with Sanchez on “Language” and loose ideas floating with Laubrock’s tenor and Friedlander’s sustained bowing for “Visa”. Almost subconscious musings hover during “The Phone Call” and “Music Makes Me Who I Am” with each piece tied together by Serpa’s recollections of her family, hone and ideas on music and personal reflections of loss and love. A musical diary.
