One of today’s most important pianists, Renee Rosnes explores Brazilian territory on this festive album with Chico Pinheiro/g, John Patitucci/b, Adam Cruz/dr, Rogerio Boccato/perc, Steve Davis/tb, Shelly Brown/fl, Chris Potter/ts-ss and vocalists Edu Lobo-Joyce Moreno-Maucha Adnet.
The instrumentals feature the leader with a rich intro to the dark “Estoria Da Floresta” featuring Potter’s tenor, while she simmers with Davis on “Trilhos Urbanos” and bounces with Brown on “Frevo”. Lobo seduces with “Pra Dizer Adeus” and gives a bluesy fado feel on “Casa Forte”. Adnet” does a glorious agonizing with Rosness and Brown on “Canta, Canta Mais” with Morenogentle on the impressionistic “Essa Mulher”. Tasty treats
