REED TONES…Kyle Jones: Dualties

Playing alto and soprano saxes, Kyle Jones explores the rich tonalities of these instruments in a series of various duets, as well as a solo outing. The latter, a soft and dreamy aria “Tableaux IX” literally sets the tone for everything else here. Teamed with pianist Timothy Jones, fluffy melodies on the sax are encapsulated by the piano on “Walt Whitman in 1989” with delicate pedals floating on “The Earthly Round (Redux)”, with Jones soprano cheerful with a rhapsodic Jones on “Lessons of the Sky”. Jones’ also stretches out on the delicate and elliptical “ Mambo Ninon whereas a duet with clarinetist Julian Hernandez is a unison dance of joy. Cirrus clouds of sound.
