Playing bass and flute, Joe Fonda teams up with icons Wadada Leo Smith/tp and Satoko Fujii/p along with drummer Tiziano Tononi fo seven creative originals. Fujii expounds on “My Song Opus #2” with Smith giving rich long tones on the spacious “Inspiraton Opus #1” and “Eyes On The Horizon Opus #3”. Fonda keeps the loose ends tied together on “ We Need Members Opus #4” and Smith mutes to delight on “Like No Other”, while “Listen to Dr. Cornel West” is as loose and abstract as the inspiration’s teachings. Forms that don’t fit too tightly.
