Younee: Improvisations Live In Germany

In the wake of Keith Jarrett, pianist Younee shows on these two discs that she may be the newest artist to specialize in concert improvisations. Taken from a series of shows in Germany, the 17 pieces (with vocal introduction) show a fecund talent that is rich in dynamics and melody, and short of self indulgence. Some of the pieces have hints of their influences, such as “Hello Beethoven” brings in quotes from the master’s piano concertos. Here dexterity and strength is shown on a riveting “Lefthand Improvisation” while “Joy” has a joyful lullaby feel. She shows bop feelings on “From Korea To Beach” and elegance during “Bright Moonlight”, with a dash of playfulness on the bluesy “Funky Sonata”. Impressive impressions
