This is about the third album I’ve taken in from TK Blue, and am still impressed by his mix of world and bluesy jazz tones. He plays the African percussion instrument kalimba quite a bit here, adding to some exoticism, and it works as a nice supplement to his saxs and flutes, teamed with Wallace Roney Jr/tp, Davis Whitfield/p, Dishan Harper/b, Orion Turre/dr and guests Steve Turre/eb and Dave Kikoski/p,. Papa Turre adds a breezy shell game to Blue’s flute on “Chrystal Lake Blue”, while he bops on the ‘bone for “Chessman’s Delight”. Roney’s trumpet sizzles on the soulful “Turquose “Bluu” with the leader’s soprano getting earthy on “Valley of The Bluee Rose” and gorgeous on the pretty “The Hue Of Blue”. Good morning Bluus!
