Trombonist Papo Vazquez sings and joins in the chorus with Jose Mangual/voc, Ivan Renta/ts, Rick Germanson/p, Ariel Robles/b, and various guests on this earthy mix of salsa originals. There’s a big Afro-Cuban sound to “NYP 9 Hudson” and the stop starts for the chanting “Guaracatu” is quite a tight fit. The tribal flutes add atmosphere on ”Cancio Del Yucayeke” and the percussion percolates on the punchy “Dos Tito’s “ , the shuffling “Light at the End of Tunnel Blues for Buhaina” and the percolating “End Percussion Jam”. The singers are rich and romantic on”Donde Esta El Amor” and the peppy “El Alcaide del Barrio”. A hot night with a full moon.
