Playing saxes and flute, Eric Person puts together a large-small group with Ingrid Jensen/tp, Robin Eubanks/tb, Daneil Dadownick/cong, Cary DeNigris/g, Jerod Kashkin/p, Adam Armstrong/b and Peter O’Brien/dr for some soulful jazz sounds. His soprano sears with Jenson over Kahkin’s thundering ivories on “Tyner Town” and his alto rumbles over O’Brien on “The Multitudes” There’s a Miles Daves ESP feel on “Pendulum Swing” , while a dash of soul funk hits on “Rhythm Edge” and “Reach”. Armstrong shows some dancing fingers on “I’ll Be Just Fine” with Person tapping into his inner ‘Trane on the assertive “Pretty Strange Love”. Reed rapture.
