Duets by Trygve Seim on soprano and tenor saxes with accordionist Frode Haltli create ethereal clouds of Byzantine meditations on this release. Seim’s tenor goes from sub-tones on the dainty “Madana Mohana” to high pitched sighs that compete in tone with the soprano sax, making for difficult separation of reeds at times, as on the dreamy hints of Piazzolla during “Arabian Tango” and abstract “Improvisation No.3/Fanfare”. The mix of Haltli’s buttons with Seim’s soprano get mysterious on “Du, mi tid” and float during “Improvisation No. 2/Shyama Sundara” Medieval musings.
