Trombonist and composer Naomi Moon Siegel creates modern pastoral and impressionistic moods in a mix of songs and a suite with a symbiotic team of Ray Larsen/tp, Marina Albero/p, Andy Coe/g, Kelsey Mines/b and Christopher Icasiano/dr. The five part title track is a gracefully ambitious event that includes some tensile piano or bass work on a pair of interludes, with the loose and dark pianist holding together the themes on “Holding All the Broken Pieces” and slowly rocking on “Shatter It” with high pitched string tones tones creating tension with the horns on “Tethered”. Siegel and Larsen get into a middleweight punching match on the snappy “Sabotage” while wafting elegantly on the intuitive “Seep Into My Pours”, with the leader giving warm brass work on the longing “Future Light”. The rhythm team is as elastic as Cirque du Soliel, bending this way and that to give subtle boundaries to the flowing waters of sound. Water colors of music.
