With the death of former boss Chick Corea, guitarist Frank Gambale has found a new home with drummer Steve Haas’ team of Pete Drungle/key, Al MacDowell-Percy Jones-Kirwan Brown/b, Pete Gallio-Jay Rodriguea/sax-wwinds and Samuel Hallkvist/g on this recent recording. One of the underrated jazz giants, Gambale is in inspiring form here, giving some nice Andalusian string work to “Ultra Flamingo” while rocking hard on “For Allan”. Drungle’s keys give a smooth R&B feel to “Celestial Latitude”, and Haas gives a funky rock pulse on “Meekat Rock” and the high energetic “Liquid Crystal”. The overall feel has reminiscence of Corea’s Elektric band, and there ain’t no complaining in that!
