Here are a couple releases by guitarist Terrence McManus. Both are trio sessions with different members, but the feel is similar.
Music For Chamber has McManus joined by saxist Ellery Eskelin and drummer Gerry Hemingway for seven separate “parts”. The ideas range from a free and loose “Part 1” to a folksy “Part 6” with things getting pretty intense and intricate during “Part 5”. While most of the time plugged in, the leader goes acoustic on the pastoral “Part Three” with the whole concept similar to ambient with an edge.
Karacell has the leader with drummer Billy Mintz and bassist John Hebert for ideas akin to King Crimson. There are a pair of “Bass Quartet” pieces, with some nifty pizzicato on “No. 2” while there’s a mercurial pace to the title piece. Hebert leads the rivulet of “Postlude” and the three get spacious and has spacey on “removal”. Progressive modes.
