Back in the late 1970s there was a musical reaction to the bombastic production bands like Queen and the disco synth pulse of Donna Summer. Punk and New wave stripped music back to its essentials, with a diving back into the roots of rock. One of the main characters was vocalist Robert Gordon, who went on a rockabilly trip with legendary guitarist Link Wray for a high powered debut album. This concert at Rockpalast in June 8, 1978 have the two backed by soon to be legendary Anton Fig/dr and Rob Stoner/b for 20, count ‘em 20 fast paced rockers.
Gordon and Wray make a formidable team on pieces like the swinging “Red Hot” and the shuffling “Sea Cruise” while getting into an Elvis mood on “Baby Let’s Play House” and tapping into Ray Charles on “I Got A Woman”. Wray’s guitar work on “Rumble” is still formidable, while his swinging ax works wonders on “Mystery Train” and the festive “Flyin’ Saucer Rock ‘n Roll”. See you at the Sock Hop!
