Pianist and composer Randy Hoexter brings in a upper echelon group including bassist Jimmy Haslip and guest guitarist Mike Sten with a collection of John David/dr, Emrah Kotan/perc, Sam Skelton/wwinds, Eric Alexander/tb, Gordon Vernick-Justin Powell/tp-fh and Roberta Setzu/voc on this accessible album with plenty of swagger. Stern’s wizardry adds to the soulful vibe of “The Dragonfly” and his six string skate th rough the fusion “Evening Comes Early”. Hoexter gets a solo outing on a thoughtful “Sonate” while adding punch to the AWB-ish “Particle Accelarator” that has the horns hitting the dance floor. Setzu’s fluid voice gives and indie feel to the cooing “The Wine-Dark Sea” , and a tribute to bop master Horace Silver hits the Latin Pulse on all 8 cylinders on a hefty “Argentum”. Cohesively cooking.
