Multi-saxist Marion Meadows taps into his inner Stevie Wonder on this soulful mix of originals. He mixes and matches reeds as well as musicians, rotating around with Chris Davis-Rahni Song-Wirlie Morris/key-b-prog, Julian Davis/harm, Curtis McCain-Paul Brown/perc, Maria Meadows/voc, Will Brock/key, Will Taylor-Adam Armijo-Brian Keane/g, Sivad Sirhc/tp and The Gaines Brothers.
There’s a fresh tropical feel to upbeat pieces like “Say What” a well as the Africa’d pulse of “Going Back Home” where Meadows’ tenor shines. His soprano is sweet on the easy swinger of a title track, and fun on the Motown-motivated “Only You” with a treat of two basses supplied by Mel Brown and Will Gaines. Marion Meadows is pretty and crystalline around the silky “AI Moonrise” and will Taylor adds some slick guitar licks on the stomping “Kool Days”. Meadows hits the Innervisions.
