A fresh voice comes out of the Chicago jazz scene with this debut album by Julia Danielle. She has a folksy wisp that floats with a bohemian glide on this collection of creatively read standards. Backed by Joshua Achiron/g, Clark Sommers/b, Dana Hall/dr and Chris Madsen/ts, she delivers almost subliminally sublime ideas on “Night and Day” and reclines on the couch with the tenorist on “There Will Never Be Another You.” Some strings bring a chamber feel to the prismatic lights of “Beautiful Moons Ago” and a vocal chorus serves as lyrical drapery on an ethereal “I Want To Talk About You”. Like the best of singers, she understates well with Achiron on “Embraceable You” and is tenderly restrained over Hall’s brushes on “If I Loved You”. Crystal blue persuasions.
