Jimmy Carpenter: Just Got Started

Singing and playing sax, Jimmy Carpenter sounds like he was weaned on STAX records on this stomping session with a core of Christopher Anderson/g, Jim  Pugh/key, Derrick D’mar Martin/dr and a dry rubbed rib collection of guests There’s plenty of boogie-ing to go around, with some tasty guitar blues on “Shining Star”, a R&B delight on “My Babe” and a shuffling “Leap of Faith”. The saxist slinks on “Mignigh Blue” and stomps through the swamp of “Working Man”, waltzing like Maltida for “I Only Gamble With My Heart”. His tenor is Plas Johnson perfect and his voice sounds like  he’s been thumbing a ride all day. When’s he hitting the road?
