Pianist Emmet Cohen mixes trios work with Philip Norris/b and Kyle Poole-Joe Farnsworth/dr while bringing in some horns once in awhile on this swinging session. His touch is almost Mozartian, giving hints of Brubeck on pieces like “Lion Song” and the classy “Time On My Hands”. He digs in deep with tivon Pennicott/ts , Frank L acy/tb and Bruce Harris/tp on “Emmet’s Blues” and goes post bop on the grooving title tune with guest Cecily Petrarca added on the koshkah. He has nimble digits on the rubato’d “Neei Ma Tov” that sustains the tension deliciously, while deft around the brushes on a bo uncy ‘Surrey with the Fringe On Top”. Classy ivories.
