Pianist Christian Sands stretches out on this most recent release, adding a string section of Andrew Joslyn/vi-va, Ross Gilliland/b and Eli Weinberger/cel along with guests waren Wolf/vib and Gregoire Maret/harm to his core team of Yasushi Nakamura/b, Ryan Sands/dr and Marvin Sewell/g. With strings, things are rich and meditative as on “Good Morning Heartache” and the reflective “Braises de Requiem I” while with vibes the music skates along on “Divergent Journeys” and the graceful “Serenade of and Angel”. The core team gets soulful in a Horace Silver fashion on “Ain’t That The Same” and digs in on “MMC”, rocking hard a bit on “Thought Bubbles II”. Creative morning colors.
