Alex LoRe: Motivity

Playing alto and the turn of the century C Melody sax, Alex LeRoe gives a tribute to the great Lee Konitz on this album teamed with Thomas Morgan/b and Johnathan Blake/dr. Having played the C melody, I can honestly not tell when which horn is being used, as LoRe’s tone on the alto goes to the dark side so often. The icy coolness of Konitz is in abundance here, with a simmering “I Remember You” and winter breeze on the bopping “Thingin’”. Things get a bit frisky on “Free” with the rhythm team as elastic as Pavarotti’s gym shorts on “A Weaver Of Dreams”. LoRe’s tone is richly  pungent on his “Intro to Thingin’” and like dry ice in a chest for “Like-Lee”. Impressive-lee done.
