If you want to know where Dimitri Tiomkin’s soundtracks for westerns ever went, they might have gone into the soul of guitarist Woody Jackson, as displayed on this recent album. He brings in a core of Jay bellerose/dr, Bill Frisell/g and Jennifer Condos/b along with some cameo appearances by Marc Ribot/g, Gabe Noel/cel, Sebastian Steinberg/b and Gerog Jackson/frhn for a handful of tunes. The folksy strums and ambient effects hover around Paul Motian’s “It Should Have Happened A Long Time Ago” and things get bully on “Theodora Roosevelt”. The extra guitar and strings make for a panorama of Monument Valley on the title tune, with Jackson’s strums surrounded by thick textures of tone on the reflective “The Son”. Wagon trains of strings.
