Rick Bogart: Sings Mr.  Paganini

Few are the male singers that don’t sound like a poser. Old School vocalist and clarinet man Rick Bogart sounds  like no one except himself, and he’s comfortable in his own suit on this collection of standards delivered in avuncular style. He’s backed mostly by the easy swinging support of Marc Daine/g and Jon B. Roche/b, you feel like you’re in the back lounge on pieces like the nifty “Since I’ve Been To You” and the cozy stroll of “The Magic Of Manhattan”. Like the best of storytellers, Bogart has an affinity for the intro, and he lays them out nicely as on “Mr. Paganini” and “Honeysuckle Rose”. Teamed in a piano/drum/bass trio setting, he milks the lyric on “Smile” and slinks through “Because Of You”. And  his licorice stick is warm with an Artie Shaw vibrato, on the serene “There Will Never Be Another You” and the romantic “American Concerto For Clarinet and Orchestra”. Sit down and stay awhile!
