Composer and big band leader Fernando Hurego plays bass alongside a large ensemble to interpret his creative originals. There is one cover, a take of Wayne Shorter’s “Deluge” with foreboding harmonies . The upbeat “Consciousness of Reality” includes impressive solos by Billy Buss/tp and Rick DiMuzio/ts, while the indigo’d “Blues Sureno” has some floating flute from Yulia Musayelyan”. The team bops through “Relentless as Rick Stone’s alto bounces boyantly, and the graceful “La Vida Sigue” has some rich reading form Greg Hopkins. The harmonies are fervent and the sections play nicely together. A joy for big band lovers.
