Pianist Fergus McCreadle continues to create a catalogue of fresh material with his trio of David Bowden/b and Stephen Henderson/dr on this latest release. McCreadle has a strong, confident and bold touch, galloping on the dynamic charge of “Storm” and thrusting forward on the intricate “Driftwood” alongside the intricate sticks of Henderson, almost creating an Irish jig in the process. He has some American flavor as well, hinting at McCoy Tyner on the post bopping “The Crossing” while there’s a feel of the Western frontier on “Sun Pillars”. The ivories get meditative on the solo aria of “Mountain Stream” and the group is panoramic on “Coastline”. Is this guy ever going to his California?
