Felipe Brito: Don’t Put Off Until Tomorrow

You know a guy is serious about his roots when the title of his debut album is also in Portuguese. Brazilian trombonist Felipe Brito hits the ground running on this album that mixes the heat of Brazil with Blue Note flavored hard bop. The team of Raphael Ferreira/ts, Fabio Leandro/p, Jackson Silva/b and Rodrigo “Digao” Braz/dr ooze energy and excitement throughout the collection of originals. The horns ricochet of the kinetic work of the rhythm section on “Vai”, while taking it to the streets on a festive “ Aos Amigos Da Vida”. Brito’s trombone is warm and confident, sauntering on sensuous “Chiquita Hermosa” as if he were serenading the lady, while sliding into dark colors with Leandro on the shad owy “Nao Deixe Para Amanha”. Ferreira is bold and beautiful on the samba’d “Nao Deixa Cair” and the two horns lock like bulls over Braz’s hammering high hat on “Pegada”. This band packs a punch!
