Sure, only drummer Ian Paice is still around from the charter band, yet still from the classic days we have singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover. Together with keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride, Deep Purple still sounds impressively rough and ready on this latest album. New materil such as “A Bit On The Side”, “Sharp Shooter” and “Portable Door” have the swagger of their Made InJapan and Machine Head days, for shure, and the team shuffles hard on “Old Fangled Thing” and “Lazy Sod” and gets a bit punky on”Show Me”. McBride’s guitar sears through “I’m Saying Nothing” and Gillan is still in macho form on the mellower “If I Were You” and Bad Companyish “Pictures Of You”. Good form; who do they think they are?!?
