Famed swing styled pianist Roger Kellaway is caught in the act at MEzzrow’s on May 5, 2023 with a trio format of Jay Leonhart/b and Dennis Mackrel/dr with guitarist Roni Ben-Hur sitting in for a spell. Kellaway displays his wide reach on a gorgeous sonata of “ Try To Remember” while hitting his Miles Davis roots on “All Blues”, “So What” and “Blue In Green”, all done to superb impressionism. Ben Hur goes ramming speed as he joins in on “Straight No Chaser” and Leonhart gets the spotlight on Ellington’s “Take The ‘A’ Train”, with KEllaway’s own “Al l My Life” a perfect example of style, taste and swing. If it’s as easy as it sounds, how come no oneplays like this anymore?
