****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Zack Foley: Silent Boomer X

I have never heard of vocalist Zack Foley before, but this album of his with just the bass of Frank Wagner and hip drums of C.J. Everett is going to get under my skin. Foley’s got a voice akin to the coolness of Chet Baker, with a dash of the hep from Jackie Paris. He’s given lots of space in this Spartan environment, but he doesn’t get lost, in fact he makes it work amazingly well. He’s clear and assuring on “Old Folks”, slinky around the blues of “ Don’t Blame Me”, a total hipster on “I’ll See You In My Dreams” and slithering around the melody like a snake on “Don’t Blame Me” a mix of wordless and lyrics hits it just right on “Everything I Love” while riding Wagner’s bass like a boogie boarder on “Turn Out The Stars”. Please let me know when he hits So Cal. WHEW!
