Contrary to Yogi Berra, nostalgia is actually better than it used to be…
Vocalist and bassist Nicki Parrot takes on Baby Boomer hits from the 1960s with a jazzy team of Steve Russell/p, Dave Sanders/b and a mix and match horn section. She gives a soulful strut on “He Called Me Baby” and brings in textured voices on “Catch The Wind”. Sanders supplies the iconic bass line for a fun “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” and Parrot gives a late night club feel to “What The World Needs Now Is Love” and a tasty “Everyone’s Talkin’”. The team of Mike Davist/ct-voc, Ricky Alexander/as-cl-voc, Josh Holcom/tb, Jared Engel/banj, Andy Schumm/p-ct, Jay Rattman/bsax-voc an Colin Hancock/dr-ct-voc put together albums from the pre-Swing Era with a dash of “Hotcha” on this album of mostly Tin Pan Alley. The brass is sliding and popping on “Cornet Chop Sue” and Schumm hits full stride on the saloonish ”My Fate Is In Your Hands”. There’s a hard driving two stepping “Everybody Loves My Baby” and the singers sing in unison and taking their parts for pieces like “My Melancholy Baby” and “My Blue Heaven”. Sounds from 78s
