Lina Bahn: Axolotl

Creative tones and effects are put into place by violinist Lina Bahn on this collection of modern pieces, and  mixing ideas of classical, jazz and ambience.

Pamela Z’s “Four Movements” is a delightful kaleidoscope that ranges from dreamy and dark melancholia to warm vibrations and concluding with a cataclysmic tensioned mix of pizzicato and bowing. A deftly agitated bowing on John Drumheller’s “Deadhorse Point” comes across like a modernized and maddenized Paganini, while Morton Subotnick’s “ Axolotl” transcription has the strings in fascinating suspense, bending to almost snapping along with some prepared effects. Shrill tones and echoes are dominant on the folkish “Vedananupassana” by Ken Ueno, with Steve Antosca’s “One Becomes Two” is a glorious journey  through a wide collection of sonic terrain. Strong strings.
