Playing alto and soprano sax, Jon Gordon brings together a large-ish ensemble of Jonathan Challoner/tp, Walter Smith III/ts, Alan Ferber/tb, John Ellis/bcl, Jocelyn Gould/g, Will Bonness/p, Julian Bradford/b, Fabio Ragnelli/ and guest vocals on a wide range of moods. Ethereal voices from a choir bring a delightful mood to “Witness” while taking part in the wild and darkly lurking “7th Ave South Reprise”. There’s an indie feel to the other take of the title tune, as well as on the sublime “Ponder This” and “Her, There” with vocals from Joanna Majoko and Erin Propp, respectively. Ellis gurgles deeply on a mellow “Spark” and Challoner” glistens on “Intro” with Gordon guiding with his tone throughout. Pleasant pictures.
