One of the forgotton composers of the silver screen was Franz Waxman, overshadowed by others like Herrrman, but hopefully rekindled by this important reissue. Conducted by Richard Mills, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra creates wondrous thoughts with Waxman’s work on the classic “Captain’s Couragous” as well as the epic films “Demetrius and the Gladiators” and “The Silver Chalice”. The dance from “The Bride Of Frankenstein” is quite a thrill, while a suite from the original film version of “A Christmas Carol” is Dickensian in itself. You don’t have to be Spencer Tracy to appreciate the beauty of the soundtracks.
