One of the leading voices on tenor sax, David M urray brings in his quartet of Marta Sanchez/p, Luke Stewart/b and Russell Carter/dr for a collection of mostly originals. There is a Charles Mingusy feel to this album, shown in the festive and bass dominated “Free Mingus” as well as on Don Pu llen’s “Richard’s Tune” that has Murray on bass clarinet for a cozy work with Sanchez. A chaotic and bluesy “Am Gone Get Some” and urgent modal “Come and Go” have Murray in passionate form, with “Ninno” an earthy delight. Swing and melody are in the air for the title tune and the team pops into overdrive for “Cycles and Seasons”. Mingus moods.
