Playing trumpet and flugelhorn, Stuart Mack leads a post bopping team of Alejandro Aviles/as-ts-fl, Manuel Valera/p, Adi Meyerson/b and Dan Pugach/dr through a collection of modern ideas. His tone is soft and fluffy, very Kenny Dorhamish, elliptical on the intro to the title track and digging in with Valera on the rest of the tune. Mack and Aviles are dark and relaxed on the bluish “2019” and soft on the pastoral “Different Realities”. Meyerson creates a nice undercurrent on “Beets” and bops well on “Stu’s Blues” while Pugach’s brushes dust off “Summertime”. A blue plate of Blue Note-inspired ideas.
