Ron Miles: Old Main Chapel

Before he left earth for his heavenly reward, trumpeter Ron Miles teamed up with guitarist Bill Frisell and drummer Brian Blade back in 2011 for a sublime and understated  gig in Boulder, Colorado. The evening is a cozy meeting of spirits and minds, with Miles’ soft  horn wafting on pieces like “Mr. Kevin” and relaxed over Blade’s gentle current on “There Ain’t No Sweet Man That’s Worth the Salt of My Tears”. Frisell is is usual understated and Cumberland Gap self, gentle on his mind on “Queen B” and folksy around the clip clop of the pre-swing’d “Guest of Honor”. There’s a f un little subdued bopper on “Rudy-Go-Round” while you feel the rural church in  “I Will Be Free”. Heavenly understatements.
