Pianist and composer Amina Figarova brings together a jazz combo of Bart Platteau, Alex Pope Norris/tp-fh, Wayne Escoffery/ts, Yasushi Nakamura/b and Rudy Royston/dr to juxtapose with 23 members of the tender hearted and full voiced Matsiko World Orphan Choir to p resent a penetrating yet joyful mix of song and message. The music itself is filled with passion, with Escoffery in Coltrane-ish form on the moal “Faith Is H er Name” and teaming up with Platteau and Figarova’s classical touch on “Dancing Clouds”. The three part “ Suite For Africa” have the earnest and richly harmonized voices complemente by Platteau on “Spirit Africa, Spirit Liberal” and delivering passionately optimistic messages with the pulsating rhythmson “ Fifteen As One”, asking for a voice to be heard on ”Forgotten Children”. Rarely does exciting and creative music meld with a challenging message of hope, making you not only want to take in the sounds, but donate to the cause.
