Just when you think you’ve heard every post WWII black gospel group, Acrobat Music shows that there is thing called the Resurrection by bringing up a group that never gets top billing. Consisting of Babb brothers Morgan, Paul, Seheus, James, Claude and George in various incarnations along with accompaniment usually by bassist Ernie Newton, The Radio Four included fervent harmonies along with the high tenured voice, not unlike Sam Cooke in sanctified form.
Most of the tunes are originals, such as “Leave It H ere” and the exciting “Sending Up This Prayer” traditional like “Get Back Jordan” and “Elijah” sway with a rural Sunday feel. The gents also served as the backup for the likes of Edna Gallon Cooke on pics like “Come By Here” and a riveting “Somebody Touched Me” and serve as the vocal refrain for Sister Lucille Barbee on “Call Him By His Name”. A take of The Blind Boys of Alabama’s ”What He’s Done For Me” and Isaac Watts’ “I Feel The Spirit” will get you up and running to get you to Sunday School on time. Oh Yeah!
