Noah Haidu: Standards II

I’ve not seen pianist Noah Haidu in action  yet, but this trio album with all stars Buster Williams/b and Billy Hart/dr makes me want to. He’s got a touch of Evans in his lyricism, but knows how to pop the clutch, as on “Up Jumped Spring” while showing some soulful strutting around Willimas on “Obsession”. As with the best of pianists, he never feels rushed, relaxing on a lovely l it on “Over The Rainbow” and classy around Hart’s brushes during “Days of Wine and Roses”, with the team bopping nicely on “After You’ve Gone”. A couple of the songs stretch out to around 10-12 minutes, but he always keeps your interest, not a bad note in the bunch.
