Jazz At The Ballroom: Flying High-Big Band Canaries Who Soared

Here’s a fun album that brings together some of the swingingest chicks on the vocal scene. A team of Champin Fulton/p, Mike Gurrola-Neal Minor/b and Charles Ruggiero-Fukushi Tainaka/dr mix and match some of today’s finest singers with songs from the Swing Era. It’s an absolute hoot!

For instance, Jane Monheit slinks on “I Only Have Eyes For You” and coos through “Social Call”. Carmen Bradford gets husky on “Lullaby of the Leaves” and Olivia Chindamo runs a nimble obstacle course through a double timed “Sweet Georgia Brown”. Vanessa Perea wisps “ Secret Love” and Champian Fulton gives out a sassy “All Of Me” . The tunes are filled with swinging stride piano and steady beats, making a perfect softball lob for the ladies to hit each pitch out of the park, which they do. Batter up!
