Guitarist Steve Luciano has a classic George Benson feel to his playing on this clever reading of covers with his team of Mike Avila/p, Charlie Siva/b, Walt Hubbard/dr and Dan Jordan/ts-fl. Luciano swings easy with Jordan’s tenor on the classy “Chant” and the two are genteel as they are guided by Hubbard on Ralph Towner’s “Summers End” . Hubbard’s brushes and Avila’s piano bop with Luciano on “Everything I’ve got” and Siva gives a rich aria on the tender trap of “Like Someone In Love”. Jordan’s flute floats on “Caruso” and his tenor digs in on the rivulet of “On The Stairs”. A solo reading of “The Bad and the Beautiful” make you wish the leader would put a completely solo session out. Tasty strings.
