The Pat Senatore Trio: Groovin’ In Rome

Back in the day, bassist Pat Senatore was a fixture in LA. Besides playing bass for Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass, he ran a hip jazz club in Malibu during the 1980s before becoming manager of Alpert’s Vibratto Jazz Club. These days, he’s living in Italy, and bringing the classy sounds of the West Coast to the Eternal City with Dado Moroni/p and Robert Gatto/dr recorded at My Secret Place.

The tunes are standards, and treated with respect and style. Moroni has that feel of Gerald Wiggins or Pete Jolly from the CA coast, graceful on “Hi-Fly” and romantic for “Emily”. Senatore gets some room on “Skylark” and the team digs into a hip bopper of ‘Pfrancing (No Blues)”  with a gorgeous aria of “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. Gatto has fun with “You and the Night and the Music” and sways to “ You’ve Been So Nice To Come Home”. A fine import.
