Spanish born pianist and composer Sergio Pamies puts together a strong album with a core of Michael Thomas/as-ss, Alex Norris/tpfh, Samuel Torres/perc, Jimmy Macbride/dr and Ricky Rodriguez/b. There’s an alluring Latin flair to each of his originals, with guests David Liebman supplying his soprano sax to the pretty title tune and Pacqfuito D’Rivera loaning is woody clarinet to the romantic “Nana Para Sergita”. Norris’ horn is warm on “Dudu” and goes bel canto on an alluring “”Ultimo Rezo (Para Carmen)” while the horns get earthy on the Afro Cuban “Puerta de Oro” and percussive “Corazondada”. Pamies’ playing is as good as his composing working through the tricky “Mild Man” and gliding around “Sleep Delirium” . Fresh forms.
