Consisting of Kurtis Gray/dr, Martin Carodine/tp, Liam O’Dell/b, DeAnte Payne/key-vibes-perc, Charles Pender/ts-fl and guest Jim Spake/ss the youthful team of JEOM gives tribute to the jazz tradition and the various artists that grew up in Memphis. The team is upbeat for a rich “Playing IN The Dak” with O’Dell leading into a blue “The Dark End Of The Street featuring Pender’s tenor. The vibes and keys are soft and gentle for “When You Wish Upon a Star” and Carodine digs in for a wild “A Night In Tunisia” with a dash of gospel on “The Crawl”. The sound get a bit raw, but as they say, better the error of enthusiasm than the indifference of wisdom.
