Daoud: Good Boy

Modern trumpet sounds are delivered by Daoud and his groove based team of Etienne Manchon/key, Guillaume  Prevost/dr, Felix Robin/vib, Louis Navarro/b and guests Alexanre Glinie/sax, Jeanne  Le Goff/vi, Estelle Besingrand/cel and Timosha/g,. Daoud has a bright and splashy sound to his playing, bold and brassy, soulful with Navarro and Manchon on “Terreau Universel 301” and hip around the tinny ivories of “Ford Focus 1999”. Many of the tunes have a soundtrack feel, such as “Chloe” with a gentle bass intro eventually building up to Daoud’s cataclysmic cries, while the R&Bish “Partir Un Jour” oozes with romance. There’s an urgency to the leader as he swirls with Prevost on the driving “Rugby a 7” and warmth on the moody “Oui”. Musical actors in a play.
