Don’t get intimidated by the subtitle of the album that states that the 8 songs are “a completely improvised electronic jazz composition”. If you’re like I am, when you here phrases like that you think “cacophonic”. Far be it.
The team of Andre Capoaso/g-FX, Jim Goetsch/ss-FX-lapton, David Strother/vi, Tny Green/b and Breeze Smith/dr-perc create cogent grooves with melodic ideas throughout the album . Goetsch’s soprano sax shines around some gentle guitar during “On The Horizon” with some winsome soloing on “Closer”. The dramatic “Arrival” closes in a rich jam, as does the “Return” propelled by Smith. The effects never get in the way, as on the elaborate ”Interstellar” and the pulsating “Abduction”, with the team swinging on “Strange World”. Close encounters.
