Trombonist Altin Sencalar delivers vintage hard bop sounds on this album with a band that includes Markus Howell/as, Diego Rivera/ts, Michael Dease/bs, Anthony Harvey/tp Art Hirahara/p, Raul Reyes Bueno/b, Rudy Royston/dr and Mike Rodriguez/perc. Sencalar is warm but never hogging the spotlight, gracefully gliding over Royston’s cymbals on “The Sunday After” and digging in deep after taking the baton from Bueno on”More Than One Answer”. There ‘s a California Cool feel from Dease’s baritone sax on “It’s Easy” and Rivera flexes his muscles on the snappy “Nuevo Dia”. A take of the soul classic “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I Got)” features Royston giving an irresistible backbeat with a suave Latin feel closing things up on “You’re My Everything”. Easy does it.
