OLD SCHOOL SOUL…Doris Troy: Another  Look, The Stylistics: Love Is Back In Style

Class never goes out of style…

Doris Troy had a big hit in 1963 with “Just One Look”, with this album a mix of recordings from 1976–20. She sounds a bit like Freda Payne or Maxine Nightingale with upbeat disco ish tunes like “Can’t  Hold On” and “Another Look”, while getting funky on “Give God Glory” and doing a gospel’d read of The Eagles’ “Lyin’ Eyes”. Smooth R&B

The Stylistics also had some big hits with their classic “Philly Sound” on things like “Betcha By Golly, Wow” and “ I’m Stone in Love With You”. Here in 1996, they mix a rap read of “Sh e’s All That” with some sl inky sounds on “Love Can Heal A Wounded  Heart” with some vintage falsetto from Russel Thompkins on “Keeping  You To Your Promise” and ‘She’s All That”. Palpable harmonies and as rich as a Philly Cheese from Pat’s Steak House.
