MODERN LARGE ENSEMBLES…Remy Le Bouef’s Assembly Of Shadows: Heartland Radio, Jeremy Rose & The Earshift Orchestra: Discordia

Modern big band jazz sounds for today’s ears…

Remy Le Boeuf puts together an orchestra conducted by Gregory Robbins for rich arrangements of originals. The moods range from a folksy “Barbara” featuring guitarist Alex Goodman” to elegiac pastoral themes on “Golden Handcuffs”. Pianist Martha Kato is reflective on the stately “New Beginnings”, surrounded by warm reeds, and the team gets a bit funky on “Stop and Go”. Impressionistic atmospheres to be imbibed.

Playing soprano sax and bass clarinet, Jeremy Rose conducts a 17 piece ensemble through elegiac originals. The is an overall atmosphere of light pastels, rumbling on the loose and flowing two-parter “Vera Discordia” and delicately following bassist Jacques Emery on “Echo Chamber”. The team rocks a bit on the upbeat “Bring Back The Nineties” with pianist Novak Manojlovic elegant on the fragrant “Floating Just Beyond Reach” and the delectable “Unverified Persona”. Subtle shifts and sways.
