Tenor saxist and composer Gianni Savelli puts together an ebullient album featuring his quintet alongside a larger ensemble, weaving in sounds and ideas like a Raphael tapestry. Teamed with Fulvio Sigurta/tp, Enrico Zanisi/p, Luca Pirozzi/eb and Alessandro Marzi, Savelli’s rich and bold orn seduces on the mellow pulse of “Melodica Sottomarina” and forms a vintage sounding hard bop team with the crisp and bright Sigurta on the mid tempo “Gorghi” while going nocturnal with Zanisi for “Nebulas”. The 17 piece orchestra features some rich Gil Evansy textures for the leader on “Delicati Effendi” and is elegiac for the embracing “Naufragar M’e Dolce In Questo Mar”. Simple ingredients that simmer on the pan deliciously.
