AMEN! Marion Williams & The Stars of Faith: Four Classic Albums and More 1958-1662

One of the most powerful voices in not only gospel, but in American music, belonged to Marion Williams (1927-94),whose career was filled with Spirit-filled passion, making “soul” singers like Aretha Franklin or Wilson Picket pale in comparison. This four disc set includes four of  her most important albums, and if this doesn’t get you to church, I fear for your eternity.

She was well known for her years with The Ward Singers, and the collection starts off with her first session from that departure, including a teaming with long time partner Esther Ford on “When I Calls Me’ “ and the riveting “I Can’t Forget”. Her next album with long time organist Robert Banks and pianist William Neal bring in fervent reads of “I Shall Wear A Crown” and “Don’t Stop Praying”. In 1960, Alberta Carter is on the piano for a strong album that features songs of famed gospel composer Lucie Campbell, including “My Lord and I” and “ There’s A Fountain”. Her 1961 album just may be her best, as she gets the aisles rolling on “Faith Makes A Difference” and causes the earth to shake like Moses on “A Pity and A Shame”. If you want the essence of American music, as well as food for your eternal destiny, check this one out. Hallelujah!
